Let me try to remember.... 1. Lots of reference on African mask design. 2. Fold a sheet (I use tagboard) of heavy paper in half and draw/design half of the face. Use a sharpie when done and go over your final drawing. I think we went to the windows and traced the other half and then sharpied those lines. 3. Thicken the black lines with your sharpie. Nice thick dividing lines a must. 4. Use heavy coverage of bright colored oil pastels in each section, and then cover with black oil pastel. I think we did one section at a time to be able to see where we were with each section. Covering the whole thing in black gets confusing. 5. Using a wooden scratch stick - scratch design in each section. 6. Add raffia at the top. Does that help?
Is there a way I can get more information on your scratch art african masks? I really really like them and just can't figure it out!
